So what’s the deal? Eddie’s cases are strange, yes. He has one case in the gayborhood, tracking a lost couple who are friends of Howard and Derek, the gay boys who need Eddie’s help. The couple are Eileen and Johnny Dietrich and have been gone – sight unseen –for several months. They live in Milton Manor, a retirement community of sorts.
Also in Milton Manor, the doings are dire. The elevator has been sabotaged. You have to read how Eddie fixes this one! Eddie also has Lou Dewey – a criminal hacker who becomes his backup to finding the Dietrichs – and all of the facts in his other strange cases.
You have to read on as every case in this book is manic, hilarious and transcendant. With the assistance of his half-Haitian lover, Claudette, Eddie creates a hero out of an Aryan Nazi, rehabilitates Lou, and finds the Dietrichs. Then he creates sanity among the elderly at Milton Manor! This Boca Knight cop-PI changes all of the people he is trying to find – into good citizens.
I am keeping an eye on Forman – I can’t wait to read his next in the series. Clever, clever, clever and refreshingly hilarious, it’s almost like getting Carl Hiaasen back again! Only Forman is too unique to compare with anyone else!
