Book Reviews & Giveaway: I Alex Cross
This book review filled me with suspicion. I truly believe that James Patterson has an IV hooked up to his writing arm and Great Ideas, Great Plots, and Great Characters dribble constantly into his bloodstream. How else could prolific Mr. Patterson come up - once again - with another BLOCKBUSTER Alex Cross novel? “I, Alex Cross,” crosses the line from good to great. Of course, I love Nana-Mama and Alex Cross’s kids, Damon, Jannie and Ali, as well as Aunt Tia, Sampson his partner and a new addition to the family - Bree, soon to be Mrs. Cross.
And now I’m ahead of myself - and my book review of “I, Alex Cross!” That’s what a great mystery writer will do to you - make you all discombobulated!
It’s Alex Cross’s birthday and the entire family, Sampson and his family, and Bree, his lover and also a homicide detective, gather at home to celebrate and join the festivities. And then ….. The phone rings.
In what I consider Patterson’s best style, the author swings from crime scene back to home front, and he does it with finesse and style.
When he picks up the phone, Alex learns that his 24 year old niece has been brutally murdered - andher body has been put through a meat grinder. Her corpse is a mangled pile of bone and sinew. Caroline - but not Caroline.
Close by, In Virginia, a young woman staggers out of the woods, naked with a bullet in her back. She reaches the highway and is picked up by a kind truck driver who takes her home to his wife.
Johnny Tucci is scared. He has blown a hit. He’s delivering a “package” - and gets stopped by the highway parol. When they see the horror in the trunk, Johnny knows he is a dead man.
As Alex goes to see the body - the remains - his heart drops. He returns home to Bree’s arms, vowing to find whomever did this to his niece.
In Washington, D.C. a rushed meeting occurs. The Vice President, Walter Tillman, has called a man named Gabe Reese to the White House. Dan Cormorant, head of the White House Secret Service, is present. Tillman turns and tells Reese and Cormorant - we’ve got a situation here. A really bad one.
Alex discovers that Caroline has been working as a very high class escort. He wonders how many other “girls” are missing, and when he discovers more, he starts to hear the name “Zeus.”
In the middle of the night while sleeping Alex hears a noise at 4:30 am. He rushes to the kitchen. Nana-Mama lies on the floor as Bree dials 911.
