When I read the first chapter of Zoey Dean's Hollywood Is like High School with Money
, I thought, Oh no! not ANOTHER "The Devil Wears Prada" (I loved The Devil Wears Prada - but enough already)!As I read further, I found Taylor Henning ( second assistant to Metronome's President of Production Iris Whitaker) her own person, and quite charming.
Just out of Weslyan College, Taylor moves to L.A. She rooms with her friend, Magnolia and starts off for her first day of work. Kylie Arthur is Iris's first assistant. Kylie does everything she possibly can to make Taylor lose her job.
Instead of her job, Taylor loses herself when she and Iris' 16 year old daughter Quinn form an uncomfortable alliance against Kylie. Quinn will help Taylor bring Kylie down as long as Taylor grants her one request - at any time - which must immediately be obeyed.
Taylor agrees and the battle for the open job of Creative Executive at Metronome begins, as Taylor and Kylie go head to head. Taylor begins to turn into Kylie making mistake after mistake. She lies and manipulates her way into the L.A. drama. This novel is fast and quick, fun and creative. It's an absolutely great beach read. There is never a dull moment as we see Taylor transform herself back to the nice person she is, and we stay in her court.
Lots of fun.

A little predictable in plot, the characters bring this book to life, and it is a worthy read to find out how Taylor's life gets back on track.
